The Australian Media and Communications Authority (ACMA) recently released findings from its crackdown on unlawful wagering during the FIFA Women’s World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Leading up to and throughout the competition, the ACMA probed 200 overseas gaming services, zeroing in on 21 in particular.
Of those 21 platforms, a mere 3 were deemed compliant with interactive gaming regulations. The other 18 were found to be in breach of the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act. Consequently, 3 of these platforms are no longer reachable within Australia, while internet service providers have blocked the remaining 15 at the ACMA’s behest.
Carolyn Lidgerwood, an ACMA member overseeing online wagering, stressed that these websites lacked authorization to provide gaming services in Australia. Moreover, some offered forms of wagering explicitly outlawed in the nation, including internet casinos, slot machines, and live online betting.
Lidgerwood cautioned, “Unlawful gaming operators frequently attempt to capitalize on the fervor surrounding major sporting spectacles like the World Cup to prey on enthusiasts.” She also underscored the absence of consumer safeguards on these sites, unlike those provided by licensed Australian betting services.

Gaining entry to these dubious platforms is becoming increasingly difficult, however. The Australian authorities recently forced the closure of several, including Lucky7even and Casino Infinity. They are taking a hard line against unlawful wagering, making it advisable to avoid them entirely.
