A telecommunications provider in Sweden, ATG, has partnered with Svenska Spel and Kindred Group to illuminate the truth about consumers exhibiting indications of problematic gambling behaviors.
This endeavor seeks to elevate public consciousness and cultivate a dialogue grounded in evidence regarding strategies to mitigate gambling-related harms. Their approach involves the semiannual public release of data pertaining to four pivotal metrics. These indicators encompass:
* The proportion of active patrons who have been engaged due to observed signs of gambling issues.
* The efficacy of these interventions – specifically, the percentage of contacted patrons who demonstrably curtailed their gambling.
* The mean decrease in gambling engagement among those who did reduce their participation.
* The proportion of patrons who exercised the option of self-exclusion from all gambling activities offered by the operator subsequent to contact.
This coalition of operators posits that this data is paramount, particularly given a study by Sweden’s Public Health Agency indicating that 56% of Swedish individuals had participated in some form of gambling within the preceding year.
The same study also underscored a troubling contradiction: despite gambling’s prevalence as a leisure activity in Sweden, public confidence in the industry remains subdued.
“Through the regular reporting of these key figures, we furnish our stakeholders with enhanced opportunities to monitor and comprehend our efforts to curtail detrimental gambling through a combination of regulatory measures, technological advancements, research initiatives, and interpersonal interactions,” stated Henrik Tjärnström, Chief Executive Officer of Kindred Group.
Held the belief that frank and sincere dialogues, rooted in reality, form the foundation for cultivating confidence within the gaming sector and motivating others to emulate this approach. Our latest partnership with ATG and Svenska Spel serves as proof of our dedication to a more open Swedish gaming landscape. We remain steadfast in our objective of attaining zero income derived from detrimental gambling practices, yet we acknowledge that cooperation, not seclusion, is crucial to realizing this ambition.
