Philippines Relaxed COVID-19 Restrictions Fuel Belle Corporation’s Profit Surge

Belle Corporation experienced a significant rise in its second-quarter profits, driven by the Philippines’ choice to relax Covid-19 limitations.

The corporation, which possesses a portion of the City of Dreams Manila integrated resort via its subsidiary Premium Leisure Corp, declared a substantial revenue boost. Belle’s profits mirror its ownership percentage in the resort, jointly operated with Melco Resorts.

Overall revenue surged to PHP1.51 billion ($27.3 million), a considerable leap from the PHP848.8 million earned in the corresponding period the previous year. During the initial six months of 2022, Belle Corporation reported PHP2.82 billion in revenue, contrasting with PHP1.75 billion in the first half of 2021.

Profits also witnessed a dramatic upswing. Belle Corporation announced a net income of PHP661.2 million for the second quarter of 2022. This stands in stark opposition to the PHP181.6 million deficit recorded during the parallel period in 2021. For the first six months of 2022, net income hit PHP1.13 billion, a substantial enhancement over the PHP265.4 million earned in the first half of 2021.

These favorable financial outcomes are linked to the Philippines’ loosening of travel and commercial constraints, initially enforced to counter a surge in Covid-19 infections earlier this year.

This upward trajectory is reflected in the performance of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), the entity supervising gaming activities within the nation. PAGCOR announced a 68% revenue surge for the first half of 2022.

The agency’s revenue reached PHP26.7 billion for the January to June 2022 timeframe, a considerable jump from the PHP15.88 billion generated during the same timeframe in 2021. Gaming activities contributed the majority of this revenue, generating PHP24.7 billion in the first six months of 2022, a 67% increase from the PHP14.77 billion earned in the corresponding period the previous year.

During the month of July in the year 2022, Peter Johns, who holds the position of Chief Creative Officer at IDX Games, collaborated with prominent figures in the industry. Among them were Angel Sueiro, the Chief Operating Officer of a significant resort conglomerate in the Philippines, and David Lawrence, who serves as the General Manager of Thunderbird Resorts and Casinos. Their assembly took place at the ASEAN Gaming Summit, where the central topic of discussion revolved around the promising prospects presented by the rapidly expanding gambling sector within the Philippines.
