The Keystone State’s betting industry once again crossed the half-billion dollar mark in April, though slightly less than the peak reached the previous month.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced that income for the month was $504.6 million, a 5.9% increase from April 2023.
While this figure is lower than the $554.6 million record set in March 2024, the two figures are very similar on a daily average basis given that March had one extra day.
Pennsylvania’s largest gambling sector remained stable
Physical slot machines remain the biggest source of gambling revenue, although income of $205.4 million was down 3.5% from April 2023. There were 24,890 slot machines in operation in April 2024, compared to 25,555 in April 2023. The state’s most popular location, Parx Casino, was down 4.9% to $31.6 million.
Online slot machine revenue was the second-largest sector of Pennsylvania’s gambling industry, at $126 million, up 31.8%.
Sports betting back on course
Online table games and sports betting both experienced double-digit growth, with the former up 15.8% to $45 million.
Sports betting revenue increased 14.5% to $42.4 million after two consecutive months of year-over-year decreases. Total sports betting wagering was $646 million, up 12.9% year-over-year.
The collaboration between Valley Forge Casino Resort and FanDuel has catapulted them to the pinnacle of Pennsylvania’s sports betting landscape. They’ve garnered a staggering $25.4 million, a figure that dwarfs the second-place contender, FanDuel’s Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, by nearly a threefold margin.
